BMW have announced that they are recalling 1.3 million 5 and 6 Series models, including 109,000 cars in the UK.
The models affected were built between 2003 and 2010.
The German car firm said of the recall that “in some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted”.
“This can result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, to charring or fire,” the company went on to say.
A company spokesperson has confirmed that they are not aware of any incidents or injuries caused by the fault.
BMW is currently writing to owners to advise them of the recall. The repair will take around 30 minutes to complete at a BMW workshop.
