Renault reveal Alpine Vision concept

Renault has announced plans to resurrect the Alpine performance brand in 2017. The new sports car will use the Alpine Vision Concept as its foundation, and is 80% production ready.

The new car will be a mid-engined, two seat coupe, powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Renault has indicated this will be a 1.6 or 1.8 litre unit, delivering up to 300bhp and 0-62mph in less than 4.5 seconds. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is likely, with wheel-mounted paddle shifts and a Sport mode, for shaper driving.

Aluminium and carbon fibre have been used in the concept car, for a kerb weight of 1100kg. The Alpine Vision showcases modern design, combined with styling elements from the brand’s racing past. The cabin features a high-tech dashboard, twin bucket seats, harness belts and a leather interior.

The Vision is designed to compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman, and Renault aim to inject new life into the brand by setting up a dedicated Alpine division.

The new sports car will be fully revealed before the end of 2016, and will go on sale across Europe in the second quarter of 2017. A starting price of £40,000 is expected for the Alpine.
