Say “Hello” to The Hybrid BMW X5 AKA The xDrive40e.
BMW have revealed a plug-in version of the X5, the XDrive40e, which will go on sale later this year.
The new petrol-electric BMW X5 offers permanent four-wheel drive, dynamic damper control and self-levelling rear air suspension. The X5 40e is reported to hit 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds at a maximum speed of 130mph and returns fuel economy of 85.6mpg on the combined cycle, giving it an official CO2 rating of 77g/km. Its four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine is hooked up to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission through a synchronous electric motor.
Drivers will get a choice of three driving modes, Comfort, Sport and EcoPro, as well as different settings for the hybrid drivetrain to maximise efficiency. The xDrive40e can even work in conjunction with the Sat-nav to recommend the most economical route given journey profile, traffic situation and drive mode.
The xDrive40e can be charged from a standard domestic power socket, public charging point, or specially installed BMW i Wallbox.
Prices and further information will be announced closer to the car’s launch in the autumn, but a starting price of around £55,000 is expected.
